Papa Roach Band Bio:
Papa Roach formed in Vacaville HIgh School, in January of 1993 when Jocoby Dokota Shaddix and Dave Buckner (also known as D. Black on their YouTube channel) met on the school’s footbal field where they started talking about music. Later on, they were joined by Will James and Ben Luther. The band’s name originated from Jocoby’s step-grandfather, Howard William Roatch, who was nick-named “Papa Roach”, who committed suicide in 2006 (The band payed homage to him in the song, “Roses On My Grave” during live performances.).
Papa Roach spent everyday practicing in Dave’s garage trying to hook local gigs. Papa Roach then recorded their first EP, entitled “Potatoes for Christmas” in 1994. David was temporarily unavailable for Potatoes for Christmas due to him spending a year at Seattle studying art. During Potatoes for Christmas, he was replaced by Ryan Brown. During that year, Will James was replaced by Tobin Esperance. A year later (David was back with Papa Roach), Papa Roach produced their first full-length CD, entitled “Old Friends from Young Years” in 1977.
In 1988, Papa Roach released another EP enitled “5 Tracks Deep“. It sold more than 1000 copies on its first month of release. The success of the EP cought the attention of Warner Brothers. They made a 5 track promo/demo CD containing “Infest”, “Last Resort”, “Broken Home”, “Dead Cell”, and “She Loves Me Not”.
Warner Brothers decided not to give Papa Roach a record. Later on, Jocoby was contacted by Dreamworks Records to offer a recording contract. After Dreamworks Records gave Papa Roach a contract, they began recording Infest which included some tracks from the demo CD recorded at Warner Brothers and some of their songs while independant. InfestLoveHateTradgedy, which was not as successful as Infest. When finished touring, they came back to the studio to record what was going to be called “Dancing In the Ashes” but then became knon as Getting Away with Murder. It outsold LoveHateTradgedy, most likely for their single “Scars” which portrays a rock-pop sound that later leaked into their next album, The Paramore Sessions. Getting Away with Murder sold 30,000 copies in its first week of release. When the band was finished touring, they went back to the studio and recorded has sold over one million copies and went platinum. Papa Roach spent most of 2005 on tour with Slipknot, Dead Poetic, Trust Company, Skindred, Chronic Future, 311, and Unwritten Law.
The Paramore Sessions
September 12, 2006, Papa Roach released (their best album, in my opinion) The Paramore Sessions. The band chose this title for the album because they recorded the album in The Paramore Mansion. While they were touring wth Slipknot, who were also recording (Vol. 3 The Subliminal Verses) in the Houdini Mansion, told Papa Roach about it and said it “was the only way to make an album.” “To Be Loved” is the first single and is currently being used for the theme song in WWE’s RAW. The album went #16 on the Billboard 200 Charts. “Forever” (In my opinion, the best song from Papa Roach) was the second single. (And believe me, they will go on… FOREVER!)
Departure of Dave Buckner
April 25, 2007,it was announced Dave Buckner would be sitting out the tour for The Paramore Sessions. It was stated, “Buckner has taken time off from touring with the band due to personal matters.” It was said he would later return. Later on, in an interview, Jacoby later announced “Dave, he went to rehab and went to clean his act up ’cause he was out of his mind” January 28, 2008, Jacoby announces on their MySpace that Buckner is officially leaving Papa Roach. He said Dave is still trying to piece his life together and that they were heading back to the Mansion for the 5th studio album!!!
Metamorphosis
The album was originally going to be called Days of War, Nights of Love but has now been changed to Metamorphosis. Matamorphosis is scheduled to release March.
Last Resort Lyrics
Cut my life into pieces, this is my last resort
Suffocation, no breathing
Don’t give a fuck if I cut my arm bleeding
This is my last resort
Cut my life into pieces, I’ve reached my last resort
Suffocation, no breathing
Don’t give a f*ck if I cut my arm bleeding
Do you even care if I die bleeding?
Would it be wrong? Would it be right?
If I took my life tonight? Chances are that I might
modulation out of sight, and I’m contemplating suicide
Cause I’m losing my sight, losing my mind
Wish somebody would tell me I’m fine
Losing my sight, losing my mind
Wish somebody would tell me I’m fine
I never realized I was spread too thin
Till it was too late and I was empty within
Hungry, feeding on my chaos and living in sin
Downward spiral, where do I begin?
It all started when I lost my mother
No love for myself and no love for another
Searching to find a love upon a higher level
Finding nothing but questions and devils
Cause I’m losing my sight, losing my mind
Wish somebody would tell me I’m fine
Losing my sight, losing my mind
Wish somebody would tell me I’m fine
Nothing’s alright, nothing is fine
I’m running and I’m crying
I’m crying, I’m crying
I’m crying, I’m crying
i…can’t…go…on…living…this…way
Cut my life into pieces, this is my last resort
Suffocation, no breathing
Don’t give a f*ck if I cut my arm bleeding
Would it be wrong? Would it be right?
If I took my life tonight? Chances are that I might
Modulation out of sight, and I’m contemplating suicide
Cause I’m losing my sight, losing my mind
Wish somebody would tell me I’m fine
Losing my sight, losing my mind
Wish somebody would tell me I’m fine
Nothing’s alright, nothing is fine
I’m running and I’m crying
I … CAN’T … GO … ON … LIVING … THIS … WAY
Can’t go on … living this way
Nothing’s alright!
This song is about the speaker losing himself. He is having problems within his mind and is seeing things. Actually, now once that I think about it, this song might have the same meaning to KoRn’s “Coming Undone.” anyways, he is saying that this is his last resort, he’d be willing to do anything to forget these memories, he doesn’t give a care if he cuts his arm bleeding… does that mean that Jacoby was emo? o.O j/k pplz I know my home boyz wouldn’t do that…

… TO BE LOVED LYRICS AND ANALYZATION
Listen up,
Turn it up & rock it out
Party on,
I wanna hear you scream & shout
This is real, as real as it gets
I came to get down, to get some fucking respect
Taking it back to the hardcore level
I’d rather be ready for some battles in the metal
Taking it back to the hardcore level
Better be ready for some battles in the metal
Go
Woahohohoh, I’ll Never Give In
Woahohohoh, I’ll Never Give Up
Woahohohoh, I’ll Never Give In
I just wanna be, wanna be loved
I want domination
I want your submission
I see you’re not resisting, to this temptation
I’ve got one confession, a love deprivation
I’ve got a jet black heart, thats all fucked up & it’s falling apart
Woahohohoh, I’ll Never Give In
Woahohohoh, I’ll Never Give Up
Woahohohoh, I’ll Never Give In
I just wanna be, wanna be loved
I’ve got another confession;
I fell into temptation
& there is no question, There is some connection
I’ve got to follow my heart, no matter how far
I’ve gotta roll the dice, never look back, & never think twice
Woahohohoh, I’ll Never Give In
Woahohohoh, I’ll Never Give Up
Woahohohoh, I’ll Never Give In
I just wanna be, wanna be loved (x2)
Take the past, burn it up & let it go
Carry on, I’m stronger than you’ll ever know
Thats the deal, you get no respect
You’re gonna get yours, you better watch your fucking neck (x2)
Woahohohoh, I’ll Never Give In
Woahohohoh, I’ll Never Give Up
Woahohohoh, I’ll Never Give In
I just wanna be, wanna be loved
(take the past, burn it up & let it go)
Woahohohoh, I’ll Never Give In
Woahohohoh, I’ll Never Give Up
(take the past, burn it up & let it go)
Woahohohoh, I’ll Never Give In
I just wanna be, wanna be loved
This is just basically a song about Papa Roach wanting to be individuals as music. They’re finished rapping, they’ll be metal at times, but they’ll just keep on changing. And that’s exactly what they did in Metamorphosis and Jacoby says so himself he’s proud of the outcome of the new album. They were just trying to be different from all those other bands. They just wanna be loved and have fun with it. Even if it did include some setbacks, like the removal of David Beckner, but the band says it was a decision that they all saw coming and at times they regret it, but they knew it was only for the good of the band.
