Well, I went looking around for what other people think this song meant, and found that Ville said in an interview once that this song was personal to him and “that the lyrics we’re a story about a relationship that doesn’t work that well. About losing all hope about the future when it comes to love & romance, but in some way find the right person in the end of the tunnel..” (Thankfully translated from Sweden by a commenter on songmeanings.com) Knowing Ville Valo as an artist who writes only about love, whether it be heartache, past memories of other lovers, perspectives of love, and also perspectives of life, clearly this song is about a past lover of his. It’s telling a story of how love introduced him to a woman and once he started falling in love with her, he knew he couldn’t stop loving her. He says love is cruel, but beautiful in ways that “Rips your heart out and leaves you/Bleeding with a smile on your face.” And, really, this is true. Love is a beautiful pain that all of us feel, eventually in our lives. What really has a deep meaning in this song, are the lines:”Love’s light blue/ Took me from you/ And at that moment I knew that I was out of hope again.” Maybe this line just means the girl broke up with him, but she came back wanting him and he knew he “was out of hope again.”
